PONT-AVEN

Places of local interest
Pont-Aven is the “city of painters” with its many galleries selling paintings by our artists. It is also home to the Pont-Aven School of Art and has a fine art gallery, housing a recently-acquired painting of Gauguin. In addition, the area is a fine starting point for the excellent walks in the countryside and around the coastal paths. If the adventure of the river calls you, you can hire kayaks and pirogues, or take a trip down the river on one of the “Vedettes” (pleasure boats). The sea is only 9 kms away and the coastline is rocky with gorgeous little sandy bays and beaches. Concarneau, a local but significant fishing port and thriving town with good beaches, is only 15 kms away. If you want to take a day-trip, from Pont-Aven you can reach the stone megaliths at Carnac in just over an hour by car, or go to see the Medieval town of Quimper, or the timeless village of Locronon, frequently used as a film set (Tess of the D’Urbervilles).
